Most of us, I think it’s safe to say, during the midst of this global pandemic and societal shutdown, have times in which we experience waves of panic and fear. That’s the fruit of uncertainty and the realization that things are out of our control. May God help us to find comfort in Scripture. A great passage to this end is Psalm 46. “God is our refuge and strength, a very help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling.” (vv. 1-3)
God is our refuge. God is the source of our strength. God is a very present help in times of our trouble. The passage ends by encouraging us to, “Be still, and know that I am God.” (v.10) In other words, step back from the panic. Distance yourself from thoughts of uncertainty. Step away from all of that and step into the presence of God. In prayer, pause, reflect and be thankful. Allow the power of His presence to wash over you and calm your heart. Set a timer and take five minutes to do that right now. God is!
